Marketing guide

Marketing an ENT practice.

An ear, nose and throat practice is really several businesses: children's ear infections sent by pediatricians, adults with sinus and sleep problems, head and neck cancer referrals, and often an audiology and hearing aid shop that sells to the public. Each is found in its own way.

Urgency
Both urgent and planned
Payment

The patient and a referring physician both weigh in

Children arrive through pediatricians. A child with ear infection after ear infection, or tonsils that keep flaring, is sent to the ENT the pediatrician trusts, and the parent mostly follows that advice. Adults with sinus trouble, hoarseness or a lump in the neck are referred by primary care, or search on their own when symptoms drag on. Cancer referrals come from dentists, primary care and other specialists, and need a fast visit.

Hearing is a separate market. Adults who suspect hearing loss often search for a hearing test, compare audiology practices with hearing aid retailers and big-box stores, and pay much of the cost themselves. Since hearing aids can now be bought over the counter for mild to moderate loss, the practice must explain what a full evaluation and fitting add.

A note on the search figures below: the trade phrase ent marketing shows a large volume, but ENT also stands for entertainment, and much of that volume is likely people looking for entertainment marketing. The patient phrases, ent near me and ent doctor near me, are the ones that matter.

Which listing and review sites matter for an ENT practice?

Parents and adults check profiles before a first visit, and hearing aid buyers read reviews closely before spending their own money. List the audiology service clearly so it appears in searches for hearing tests.

Hearing aid buyers in many areas read Yelp before choosing where to spend; the page is free and ads are optional.

How each site charges is as recorded in the listing site directory, read on the site’s own pages; each name opens its full listing.

Which channels fit an ENT practice?

Pediatrician and primary care relationships bring the surgical volume. Search ads and reviews bring hearing aid buyers. The map listing serves everyone, provided it names the services patients search for.

Questions to ask

  • Which pediatric practices send the most children, and when did you last talk with them?
  • How many hearing aid buyers first came for a test, and what share bought elsewhere?
  • Does the hearing page explain what a fitting adds over a device bought in a store?
  • Does every device claim say cleared or approved correctly?

Which rules apply to ENT marketing?

ENT practices sell devices and procedures directly to patients, which brings device claims and self-pay rules into play alongside the everyday ones.

State medical boards add their own advertising rules, and they vary by state; the state medical board index links each one.

How should an ENT practice set a marketing budget?

The worked example

The calculator’s example budget of $5,000 a month in search ads, at the healthcare overall benchmark, with 50% of leads booking a visit:

Clicks a month
about 887
Leads (calls and forms)
about 72
New patients
about 36
Cost per lead
$69.72
Cost per new patient
$139.44

Worked out by the patient acquisition cost calculator from the figures above (benchmark, LocaliQ, 2026; LocaliQ: healthcare search ads benchmarks, read October 25, 2026). The budget and booking share are the calculator’s example figures, not a recommendation.

Run the calculator for the hearing line on its own. Enter what a hearing aid sale and fitting bring in, the follow-up visits in a year and the years before a patient replaces their devices with you. In the calculator, the hearing aids and care category may be a closer benchmark than healthcare overall.

Leave pediatric and surgical growth to referral work, and track referrals by practice each month.

Questions ENT practices ask.

How much should an ENT practice spend on marketing?

Mostly on the hearing line, which sells to the public; referral work drives the rest. Size a hearing budget with the patient acquisition cost calculator using your own sale and follow-up figures. We know of no sourced spending norm for ENT.

Can an ENT practice use hearing aid testimonials and patient reviews?

Yes, with written HIPAA authorization, results that reflect what patients generally experience, and any discount or gift for the testimonial disclosed. Ask every patient for a review. State boards may add rules; see the state board index.

Does an ENT practice need Google Ads?

For hearing tests and hearing aids, often yes, since buyers compare sellers online. Plan from the healthcare figure of $5.64 (benchmark, LocaliQ, 2026) a click or the hearing aids category in the calculator; referral care needs no ads.
